Cerrudo replaced the HVAC system supporting the COMMS Rooms at Sector San Diego, Building F. Phasing of the demolition and installation of the units was required in order to maintain continuous server operation throughout the construction schedule. Structural design of new roof sleeper supports and anchoring for the two new AC units was provided.
There were two existing roof-top HVAC units, AC-3 and AC-4. Unit AC-3 which was already out of service was removed first, along with associated refrigerant lines back to the roof mounted condensing unit. The power feed was demolished back to the electrical panel. The condensing unit was then removed along with the supply air fan and associated ductwork. The wall penetration was sealed.
New roof sleeper supports for the two new AC units were installed, with seismic anchoring. Two new 3-ton, cooling only, packaged roof-top AC units, variable stage compressors and condensate piping were installed along with horizontal supply/return duct connections. Common supply ductwork from the new roof-top units to the raised communications room floor inside the building was installed. Ceiling return grilles and manifold were installed to the common return duct. The return main was routed through the roof and manifold to each AC unit.
