Cerrudo Services repaired wave protection barriers (WPB) and small boat floating dock assemblies at Yerba Buena Island.  Work was required to repair damage to transition plates and spalled concrete due to intense up and down, side to side, and rolling wave action.  As a sea wall solution was cost prohibitive, an improved connection using special lock nuts on docks A/B, D/E and E/F, and a timber/steel plate waler system for dock F/G was designed.  The special lock nut system minimized the need for frequent maintenance as the lock nuts are not dependent on continuous clamping force and associated tensile force in the bolt as in traditional bolted assemblies.  The majority of damage to the floats had occurred when the nuts loosened and the assembly became detached, allowing the pounding of the adjacent floats upon each other.  The timber/steel plate waler system was an improvement to the through rods which had anchored dock F/G in place.
